Auchi, Edo State – In a remarkable development, the Edo State Government has unveiled the newly refurbished Auchi General Hospital, renaming it the Edo State University Teaching Hospital. The transformation of the hospital marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to provide quality healthcare services to its residents ands at large.
The hospital was inaugurated by the state’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, on behalf of Governor Godwin Obaseki. Speaking at the ceremony, Shaibu emphasized that the hospital has been extensively redesigned, equipped, and fortified to cater to the medical needs of not only the state’s inhabitants but also people across Nigeria.
To mark the occasion, the hospital commenced a three-day period of free medical care services available to everyone, regardless of tribe, religion, or ethnicity. Deputy Governor Shaibu urged the local populace to take advantage of this opportunity to access high-quality healthcare without any financial burden.
“The establishment of the teaching hospital is of utmost importance in providing superior healthcare delivery and improving the overall well-being of the people of Edo State ands in general,” stated Shaibu.Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor of Edo State University, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, emphasized that the teaching hospital would foster an environment of collaboration and mutual learning. He emphasized the importance of exchanging knowledge, drawing inspiration from groundbreaking research, and learning from the experiences of others, particularly for Edo State University students.
Furthermore, Prof. Aluyor highlighted the hospital’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, including the three-day free medical care services, aimed at benefiting the communities of Auchi, Iyamho, and Ivioghe in Etsako West and East respectively.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor assured the public that the university’s management would spare no effort in positioning the hospital to achieve global competitiveness.
“The three days of free medical care services align with the hospital’s Corporate Social Responsibility for the communities of Auchi, Iyamho, and Ivioghe in Etsako West and East, respectively. I can assure you that the university’s management will do everything possible to ensure that the hospital reaches a level of global competitiveness,” said Prof. Aluyor.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling ceremony conducted by Deputy Governor Shaibu, who also symbolically laid the foundation for the construction of the pediatric unit, accident and emergency wards, and an additional theater within the teaching hospital premises.
The transformation of the Auchi General Hospital into the Edo State University Teaching Hospital and the subsequent provision of free medical care reflect the government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and advancing medical education in the state. With the refurbished facility and expanded services, the hospital is poised to play a crucial role in enhancing the overall health and well-being of the people of Edo State.
