Androgel is a testosterone supplement used to treat certain conditions caused by low levels of natural testosterone.

Testosterone is a hormone produced naturally in the body; it is more so in men because it is the primary male sex hormone responsible for the normal growth and development of secondary sexual characteristics and organs in men. So, when testosterone is low, it can result in erectile dysfunction, regression of secondary sexual characteristics, fatigue and low energy, reduced sexual desire, depression and osteoporosis (weakening of bones).

Androgel belongs to a class of drugs called androgens, and it comes in the form of a topical gel applied on the skin to replace or supplement testosterone so that a person can either avoid or treat testosterone deficiency.

Dosage

The recommended starting dose for androgel is 50mg daily to be applied on the skin either on the abdomen, upper arms or shoulders. The dosage can also be regulated based on blood testosterone levels and response to treatment.

After applying the gel to your skin, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and running water because the medication may be harmful if swallowed.
