Kaduna State, in northern Nigeria, is grappling with a concerning outbreak of diphtheria, a highly contagious bacterial infection that primarily affects the mucous membranes of the nose and throat. The Director of Public Health at the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Hamza Ibrahim-Ikara, shared these alarming statistics in an exclusive interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna. He revealed that the suspected cases have been identified in four local government areas, including Makarfi, Kubau, Jema’a (Kafanchan), and Kaduna North.

Currently, health authorities are closely monitoring one suspected case at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, while 28 samples have been taken and sent to the laboratory for testing.
